North Route — Boca Raton to Delray Beach
Heading north from Boca on the Intracoastal takes you past Highland Beach's quiet waterfront estates and into Delray Beach, where Atlantic Avenue's restaurants and bars line the water. It's a 45–60 minute scenic cruise, perfect for a long lunch stop.
Bonus: the architecture along this route is some of the most photogenic in South Florida.
South Route — Boca Raton to Hillsboro Inlet
Heading south takes you past Deerfield Beach, Hillsboro Beach (one of the prettiest stretches on the Intracoastal), and toward the iconic Hillsboro Lighthouse and inlet. This is the route locals love for sunset photography and easy swim stops along the way.
Lake Boca Loop
The most popular short cruise: launch from Boca, head straight to Lake Boca, anchor at the sandbar, swim, then loop back. A 4-hour rental is perfect for this.
Sunset Loop
Launch 90 minutes before sunset, cruise a slow Intracoastal stretch (north or south), and time your return for blue hour. The light makes every photo magical.
Pro Tips for Intracoastal Cruising
- →Stay between the channel markers — outside the channel can shallow up fast.
- →Watch your wake near docked boats — Florida law requires no-wake speeds in marked zones.
- →Mornings are calmest. Afternoons are most lively.
- →Sunset is unbeatable — but launch early enough to make it back before dark.
