Boca Raton Boating Guide

South Florida Sandbar Etiquette

Sandbars like Lake Boca run on unwritten rules. Follow them and you'll have the time of your life. Ignore them and you'll be 'that boat'. Here's the local cheat sheet.

Anchor Smart

Drop a stern AND bow anchor so you don't swing into your neighbor. Give yourself room. If you're tying off to another boat, ask first.

Music Volume

Sandbars are social. Music is welcome. Volume should still let your neighbors hear themselves talk. If a stranger has to lean in to be heard, you're too loud.

Pack Out Trash

Bring a trash bag. Take everything with you, including bottle caps and cigarette butts. The sandbar stays beautiful only because boaters police themselves.

Watch the Wake

Idle in, idle out. A wake at a packed sandbar pisses off every boat anchored there — and can hurt swimmers.

Kids, Dogs, and Drinks

All welcome. Keep an eye on kids and dogs in the water. No glass on board (Florida law and good sense).

Be Friendly

The sandbar is the friendliest place in South Florida. Wave, share a beer, help with anchors. That's the culture.
